Amongst the strength and beauty that exposed timber has brought to this contemporary school on the Mornington Peninsula, lies a very real coating challenge. Externally stained timbers do not respond well to the suns ultra violet impact and to add to the challenge the original stain finishes were discontinued from sale, requiring the sourcing of new products to match the original. Furlong Painting was chosen as partner in this challenge, putting together a long term paint maintenance proposal to address these specific needs.
As part of a staged strategy, all surfaces were addressed, with a specific allocation over a 6 year program for substrates most vulnerable to UV degradation. For surfaces with a high UV exposure, the strategy included a transition to a decorative finish to enable more effective paint maintenance.
