Frequently Asked Questions

Accreditation & Safety Compliance

Furlong Painting is a proud member of the Master Painters Association (Vic) for over 25 years.

Furlong Painting carries Public Liability cover for a maximum of $20,000,000 and Workers Compensation for eligible workers.

During the life cycle of a project (from quotation to on site works), Furlong Painting considers safety of paramount importance to ensure the well-being of employees / contractors / general public and prevent accidents or injuries.

Prior to works commencing a Pre Start and Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) are produced to identify hazards and control measures required to ensure safety of Furlong Painting operatives and members of the general public.

All Furlong Painting staff and painting operatives working in Aged Care and Education environments have current National Police Checks and Working with Children Checks.

Prior to painting works beginning, all painters will need to conduct a safety assessment to identify any hazards and risks particular to the project. This includes the need to work at heights either using powered or non powered equipment. Where certification is required (e.g. boom lifts over 11m in height), all operatives using powered equipment will have such certification whilst all equipment supplied will be maintained as per regulatory requirements.

Quotations / Proposals

Following an assessment of project needs by a Furlong Painting representative, a no obligation free quotation is provided outlining an anticipated scope of works, specification and pricing along with terms and conditions.

Generally no. Every painting project is different and there are several variables that can influence the specific requirements, complexities and costs associated with each project.

This Quotation is valid for 30 days from the date of quotation.

Project Elements

Generally we work as a business to business provider and not business to consumer and don’t paint domestic homes.

Furlong Painting is a commercial painting provider specialising in the Education, Aged Care, Health, Retail, Owners Corporation and Manufacturing sectors. Whilst we provide operatives for all painting environments, our focus on rigorous business systems and safety certifications (e.g.  Police checks, Working with Children checks etc) suit clients with ‘higher compliance’ needs.

From small scale maintenance painting projects of one office through to multi site / multi year painting programs, Furlong Painting has an operational capacity to satisfy all client needs.

The anticipated duration and number of painters will vary, dependent on the complexity of the project, the schedule expectations of the client, availability of materials and equipment and workload of Furlong Painting.

Furlong Painting’s system is derived from the Maintenance Painting System guidelines (Section 8) of the ‘Australian Standards Guide (AS/NZS 2311:2000) – Guide to the Painting of Buildings’.

Within this document, Tables 8.2 and 8.3 outline the systems to be used to ensure complete paint coverage and existence of a sound paint film.

On all surfaces, the number of coats will depend largely on the colour chosen, condition of the substrate and sheen level of the existing coating.

All Furlong Painting proposals includes works and allowances as arranged directly with the client.

The proposals exclude additional allowances for any third party requirements (e.g. Additional council costs, power authority requirements, heritage registration / overlay applications etc). Should additional third party requirements be necessary a further cost may apply.

Other Considerations

There are considerations either way regarding this question.

‘Prior to’ consideration – On a practical note, whilst every effort would be made to protect flooring during a painting project, there could be an occasion where a small paint splatter might ‘get through’. This would not be an issue if its prior to the new carpet being laid and provide a better overall outcome once carpet is laid.

‘Post to’ consideration – There may be a height different between the old and new carpet and require a subsequent visit (and cost) for painters to ‘touch up’ any skirting that shows the previous coating.

Furlong Painting provides a workmanship guarantee for a period of three years against faulty workmanship and the defects of bubbling, peeling and cracking.

Furlong Painting is associated with a number of qualified tradespeople and is able to arrange for ancillary works to be quoted / performed on the client’s behalf. This can include carpet laying, plaster works, non load bearing building repairs and certain works required prior to the provision of painting services.

We can provide a 24 hour, 7 day per week service which can cater for works that need to be done ‘out of hours’, on weekends and public holidays.

Furlong Painting chooses to use only Premium Grade Paint coatings from major suppliers such as Haymes and Dulux.

Quotations / Proposals

Each project proposal will include a variety of references and referees who can attest to their experience with Furlong Painting. As a company we strive to have a positive client interaction and an outcome that meets or exceeds their expectations. If we fall short of this, and we know it can happen, we embrace the feedback and use the opportunity to improve.
